ERBIL — A bomb explosion on Friday wounded three Iraqi soldiers during an operation against the Islamic State (IS) in Daquq district, Kirkuk province.
The fresh military campaign was carried out in the area of Wadi al-Shay, Daquq district, where a bomb planted by the jihadists targeted a convoy of the Iraqi Army, reports said.
Daquq Mayor Lwis Fandi confirmed the report to BasNews and pointed out that the operation was conducted in the valley of Rokhana, with no updated details yet available on the operation.
However, the commander of the joint operations headquarters in Kirkuk, Lieutenant-General Ali Al-Fariji, said in a statement that the Iraqi forces managed to kill an IS militant and wound another in the same area on Friday.
According to the commander, missiles, equipment, cooking utensils, and gas cylinders were also seized at a hideout used by the insurgents in Wadi al-Shay, which is a valley in Kirkuk that is adjacent to Diyala and Salahaddin borders.
The Iraqi Security Media Cell reported earlier today that the country's aircrafts had destroyed eight hideouts belonging to the Islamic State in the Hamrin mountain that links Kirkuk, Salahaddin, and Diyala.
