ERBIL — Kurdistan Region Parliament has decided to dispatch a delegation to investigate the case of thousands of Kurdish migrants stranded on the border between Belarus and Poland.
Parliament Spokesperson Rewaz Fayiq on Tuesday tasked the Foreign Relations Committee to form the delegation soon and visit both the countries, MP Chiya Hamid told BasNews.
The delegation will be required to prepare a detailed report on the current situation of the migrants and the causes behind the mass migration.
MP Hamid pointed out that the parliament and government of Kurdistan Region will later meet to discuss the outcomes of the investigations and set a plan to address issue.
Thousands of migrants from the Kurdistan Region are among the large crowds of men, women, and children stranded on Belarus-Poland border, hoping to be allowed to enter the EU for a better future.
Poland, however, has deployed reinforcement to tighten security measures on its eastern border and prevent the migrants from crossing into its territories.
The EU blames Belarus for using the migrants as a bargaining chip in response to the sanctions Brussels has imposed on Minsk after the recent elections.
