ERBIL — Pro-Iran Hashd al-Shaabi said on Saturday that it had repelled an attack by the Islamic State (IS) militants in Nineveh province.
The Hashd al-Shabi's media said in a statement that a force from the 44th Brigade repelled an IS attack targeting al-Jazeera, Wadi al-Tharthar and al-Makhazin areas, in southwest of Ninevah province, with no casualties reported.
A separate statement by the Federal Intelligence and Investigations Agency of the Ministry of Interior reported that three Islamic State members were killed, explaining that one of them was a "Sharia" judge while another was responsible for booby traps.
They were killed during an operation in the desert of Anbar province, according to the statement.
This comes less a day after the Peshmerga forces of Kurdistan Region repelled an IS attack in Kifri district, Garmiyan Administration, Ministry of Peshmerga said.
The jihadist group also carried out a mortar attack on a unit of the Iraqi Army in Daquq district without resulting in any casualties, Daquq Mayor Lwis Fandi told BasNews on Friday.
The Islamic State continues to harm the security forces and civilians in various areas of Iraq, particularly in the disputed territories. Erbil and Baghdad have lately formed two joint brigades to secure the region.
The Peshmerga forces jointly with the Iraqi Army conducted an operation against the remnants of the Islamic State in north of Nineveh province on Saturday morning, Kurdistan Region’s Peshmerga Ministry said in an official statement.
