ERBIL — A Kurdish woman in Erbil gave birth to six babies, two of which died soon after birth at a hospital in Kurdistan Region’s capital.
Dr. Sherwan Haidari, director of Erbil Maternity Hospital, told BasNews that it was the first set of sextuplets at their hospital, delivered by caesarean section.
The newborn, five boys and a girl, were taken under extensive care as they were born at the 22nd week of the mother’s pregnancy, Haidari explained.
A day later, BasNews reporter said two of the children died due to health complications.
The mother is said to be in a good condition. It was her second pregnancy and she had previously delivered a boy normally.
Erbil Governor Omed Khoshnaw said Prime Minister Masoud Barzani had tasked him to provide assistance to the family as they understand the financial pressure the sextuplets could bring to the family.
