Sweden Ready for Stronger Ties with Kurdistan: Envoy

ERBIL — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Thursday welcomed the new Swedish ambassador to Iraq, Jonas Loven, in Erbil discussing bilateral relations between the sides, a statement has confirmed.

Confirming the meeting, a statement by the premier's office said: "Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Thursday met Jonas Loven, the new Swedish ambassador to Iraq."

The Kurdish prime minister congratulated the new Swedish ambassador to Baghdad and "hoped for better relations between Iraq, Sweden, and the Kurdistan Region," the statement continued.

"The ambassador thanked the Kurdistan Regional Government for its cooperation and expressed Sweden’s readiness for stronger ties," it further noted.

PM Barzani earlier the day also received UK Ambassador to Iraq Mark Bryson, with whom he discussed the reforms within the Peshmerga Ministry and the deal between Erbil and Baghdad to normalize the situation in Sinjar.

The pair, in the meantime, shed light on post-election Iraq and the Kurdistan Region’s relationship with the United Kingdom. Barzani "hoped the election results will help the stability in Iraq and ease the problems between Erbil and Baghdad," a statement by the premier's office said.
