Established in 1996, Sulaymaniyah Carpet Factory is one of the most successful examples of local businesses.
It produces hand-woven carpets and other goods.
A total of 42 people, mostly talented and well-experienced women, work in the factory.
In the past, the factory depended on local raw materials to produce carpets that competed with Iranian products in quality.
However, since most of the wool factories have closed in the recent years, it now imports row materials from neighboring countries.
The craftswomen received trainings in Spain, Turkey, Iran, and Jordan.
Iranian businessmen are among the main customers for the Kurdish carpets.
Factory managers are working to use their products not only for economic purposes, but also for presenting the Kurdish culture to the outside world.
