ERBIL — The coronavirus has so far claimed the lives of more than 5,700 individuals in the Kurdistan Region since the outbreak of the pandemic in the region in March 2020, the Health Ministry said on Sunday.
The ministry explained in its daily report that 7,496 suspects took tests for the novel virus, from which 1,253 new infections of COVID-19 were confirmed within the previous 24 hours across the autonomous region.
Moreover, 1,476 patients were discharged from hospital after they fully recovered from the coronavirus in the region, the ministry further explained.
With 17 new fatalities related to COVID-19, the death toll reached 5,712.
The new reports bring the coronavirus tally in the Kurdistan Region to 318,820, out of which 285,350 people have recovered and 27,758 others remain in hospitals currently, according to the latest updates by the ministry.
The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has already vaccinated hundreds of thousands of people while more than 700,000 other people already registered their names to receive the COVID-19 vaccines.
