Barzani's office said in a press release that the Kurdish premier on Thursday received Fuad Khadhir al-Majali, the Jordanian new Consul General to the Kurdistan Region, exchanging views on the bilateral ties between the sides.
"Prime Minister Barzani recognised that King Abdullah of Jordan has played a key role in supporting the Kurdistan Region over the years, and welcomed the strengthening of bilateral ties between Amman and Erbil," the press release added.
The prime minister and the Jordanian Consul General both agreed "to work closely" together so as to elevate the regional cooperation on issues of shared interest.
Earlier on September 5, Jordanian Parliament Speaker Abdelmonem Al-Odat arrived in Erbil and held separate meetings with the senior Kurdish leaders for talks on various topics.
During his stay in Erbil, Odat met with Kurdish leader and President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), Masoud Barzani, reviewing the relations between Erbil and Amman which they described as “historic, friendly, and exemplary”.
He further delivered greetings from King Abdullah II and reiterated that Jordan values the role of the Peshmerga forces in fighting terrorism in the region, Barzani Headquarters said in a statement at the time.
