ERBIL — Iranian security forces on Sunday night opened fire at a civilian car traveling on a public road near Paweh in Kermanshah province, injuring a 4-year-old girl.
According to local sources, the security forces suspected the vehicle of carrying illegal goods, and they opened fire at a distance of approximately two meters.
Hengaw Organization for Human Rights confirmed the report and revealed that the driver, accompanied by his family, had stopped at the checkpoint to allow searching his car.
The monitoring group identified the injured as Haya Payam. She is said to be in a critical condition now, receiving treatment at a hospital in Paweh.
Iranian forces frequently target civilian vehicles in the border areas of the Kurdish provinces northwest of the country, suspecting them for carrying illegal goods, or specifically alcohol which is banned in the Islamic Republic.
