Kurdistan's Electrical Interconnection Project with Iraq, Turkey Almost Completed

ERBIL — The electrical interconnection project between the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and Turkey is almost completed, the autonomous region's Ministry of Electricity announced on Tuesday.

The ministry explained in a statement that the 400 kV transmission line project has reached its final stages, noting that the line is 17 kilometers long and that it has the capability to transmit 1,000 megawatts of electricity.

According to the the statement, the project would resolve the low voltage and overloading the electrical network problems in the region.

"It is possible to transfer electricity from Turkey to the region and Iraq through this line, which the ministry of electricity will control."

The electrical project is expected to be completed by the end of July, according to the statement.
