ERBIL — Islamic State (IS) militants on Wednesday night attacked the Iraqi federal police forces near Hawija, southwest of Kirkuk province, killing one policeman.
Hawija Police Chief Fatah Mahmoud told BasNews that the insurgents had targeted the 3rd Brigade of the Federal Police stationed outside Riyadh subdistrict.
“One policeman was killed and another sustained injuries,” he added.
There was no report of possible casualties among the IS militants.
Kirkuk’s stability remains challenged by the IS remnants who have now resorted to insurgency war against the security forces and keep targeting civilians through terrorist attacks.
