ERBIL — Islamic State (IS) militants on Sunday carried out an attack on the Iraqi Federal Police forces in west of Kirkuk province.

A source told BasNews that the attack had targeted a police unit in the areas between Hawija and Rashad districts.

At least two policemen were killed, the source confirmed.

Later in the day, security forces were dispatched to the area to support the Police forces, but an improvised explosive device (IED) hit their convoy.

The explosion has reportedly left one soldier injured.
