ERBIL - UK Ambassador to Iraq Stephen Hickey, during his meeting with Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani in Erbil on Wednesday, reiterated his country's support for the autonomous region.
Barzani's office said in a statement that the premier received the UK envoy "to commemorate the conclusion of his duties" in Iraq.
PM Barzani wished the ambassador luck, commending his work in developing the relations between the UK, Kurdistan Region, and Iraq.
"The ambassador reiterated UK’s support for the region, and addressed the importance of continuing the help and assistance for the Peshmerga Forces in combatting terrorism."
The pair further exchanged views on reforms within the Ministry of Peshmerga as part of the ninth cabinet's agenda, the relations between Erbil and Baghdad, as well as the COVID-19 vaccination process in the region.
Following the meeting, Barzani wrote on Twitter: "Pleasure speaking with amb @sblhickey today on issues of mutual interest. We discussed reforms, the new budget deal with Baghdad and the upcoming elections."
