ERBIL — Islamic State (IS) militants on Wednesday carried out an attack on the Iraqi Federal Police forces in southwest of Kirkuk, injuring six policemen.
A police source said the militants had targeted a unit of the federal police in Riyad subdistrict of Hawija, some 55 kilometers south of Kirkuk.
“The militants managed to escape the area after the attack,” the source added, indicating that no IS militants were killed or injured in the attack.
The Kurdish disputed province of Kirkuk is among the areas most challenged by the IS terrorist attacks.
Erbil and Baghdad have recently established joint cooperation centers between the Iraqi Army and Kurdish Peshmerga Forces to address the security concerns in these disputed territories.
