ERBIL - Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani on Monday held a phone call with Iran's President-elect Ebrahim Raisi, during which he hoped for strengthened partnership and cooperation.
"During the phone call, the President congratulated President-elect Raisi on his victory in the presidential elections and wished him success," Barzani's office said in a press release.
The Kurdish president thanked Iran for its support to the Kurdistan Region during the difficult times and hoped that the autonomous region's historic relations with the neighboring country will further develop "based on mutual interests and neighborly bonds."
"The President expressed hope that the mutual relations will lead to strengthened cooperation and partnership," the press release added.
Raisi, in return, expressed delighted with the phone call from Barzani and hoped that the ties, as well as the partnership, of Iran with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region will expand further.
