ERBIL - Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Monday received a delegation of UNFPA led by Deputy Executive Director Ib Petersen, Deputy Executive Director to discuss cooperations between the sides to further advance the population development.
"I stressed the KRG's readiness to support the UN programs to improve health, education, and human resources development in the Kurdistan Region," the Kurdish prime minister said in a statement published on his Facebook feed.
"We also agreed on the importance of combating domestic violence and enhancing family conditions, which is foundational to a healthy society."
The importance of conducting an official population census in the autonomous region, as well as Iraq, cooperatively with the United Nations while taking into consideration the demographic changes that certain parts of Iraq have been subjected to, especially in the disputed areas, was also discussed during the meeting.
Barzani further reminded that hundreds of thousands of residents have been forced to leave their homes "due to war and instability and others have been brought to their places."
