ERBIL - Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi on Thursday met with ambassadors of the European Union in Baghdad, reiterating to them that all preparations have been made to hold the parliamentary elections as scheduled.
The Iraqi News Agency (INA) cited a statement by Kadhimi's office as saying that "they discussed the Iraqi-European relations and ways to develop them."
They also stressed "the importance of European support for Iraq in its war against terrorism and in the field of election observation, and the renewal of European support for UN Security Council Resolution 2576, which supports the international contribution to observe the Iraqi elections."
"The government has prepared all the requirements for holding the early elections on time, on October 10, and providing the appropriate conditions to ensure that their results are the true expression of the will of the Iraqi people," Kadhimi said.
The ambassadors, in return, reaffirmed the EU's support for Baghdad's orientations aimed at imposing the rule of law and economic reform, as well as its efforts to provide more job opportunities through increasing interest in developing investment opportunities.
The EU, according to the statement, showed its readiness to provide the support that Iraq needs to organize the early elections, which is scheduled for 10 October.
