KRG's Council of Ministers Discusses Final Steps of Implementing Federal Budget Law

ERBIL - Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) Council of Ministers convened on Wednesday under the supervision of PM Masrour Barzani to discuss the final steps of implementing the Federal Budget Law.

The latest meeting comes a day after the Kurdish premier announced that Erbil and Baghdad had agreed to restore the federal budgetary payments to the Kurdistan Region following over a dozen of meetings between a high-level delegation of KRG, led by Deputy PM Qubad Talabani, and officials in Baghdad on the autonomous region's share of the budget bill for the current year.

Barzani, during Wednesday's meeting, "thanked the KRG’s delegation to Baghdad for successfully defending the financial rights of the Kurdistan Region, and noted the value of the Iraqi government’s cooperation," his office said in a press release.

The premier also reaffirmed his cabinet's commitment to the law, expressing hope that the agreement between Erbil and Baghdad would lead to a better economic situation in the country.

Meanwhile, Talabani "presented updates on meetings with Iraqi ministries set to implement article 11 of the federal budget law. He was joined by Finance Minister Awat Sheikh Janab, who explained the latest developments in the 2021 Kurdistan Region budget," the press release added.

The council members further discussed the resumption of work at government offices, deciding to begin normal working hours starting next week, as the coronavirus situation is improving in the region.
