Iraq Congratulates UAE on Winning Non-permanent Membership in UNSC

ERBIL - Iraq has congratulated the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on winning the non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council, a spokesperson said on Sunday.

Iraq's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, held a phone call with his Emirati counterpart, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, to convey Baghdad's congratulatory message to the UAE on its winning of a seat of the non-permanent membership in the UNSC.

Earlier on Friday, the United Nations General Assembly elected the UAE as well as four other countries, including Albania, Brazil, Ghana, and Gabon as members of the UNSC for a two-year term which is expected to begin on January 1, 2022.

Ahmed al-Sahaf, a spokesperson for the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also confirmed the report and noted that Iraq looks forward to strengthening the joint Arab roles and exchanging support in the most important international issues.
