ERBIL - Iraqi security forces on Sunday captured a senior member of the Islamic State (IS) group in the capital Baghdad, a statement said.
A statement by the Iraqi Military Intelligence pointed out that the jihadist group's Mufti of Rawa city of Anbar province was captured at al-Zohour checkpoint in Dora area, south of Baghdad.
There was an arrest warrant issued for the insurgent in accordance with the provisions of Article 4/Terrorism, the statement added.
This came hours after the security forces managed to arrest six individuals who had been on the wanted list.
The arrests were made during a large-scale security operation carried out on Sunday morning in the areas of Abu Al-Khasib and Umm Al-Rasas, Major General Ali Abdul-Hussein Al-Majidi, head of Basra operations command, said in a statement.
During the operation, light weapons and medium machine guns, as well as different types of ammunition, were seized, according to Majidi.
