ERBIL — At least 18 civilians were killed and more than 35 others were injured on Saturday in a bombardment in the center of Afrin, a Syrian Kurdish city currently under the control of Turkey and its Islamist rebels.
Local sources said at least four explosions were heard in different areas. On has hit the city’s main hospital.
Several women, children, and medical staff are among the victims.
No group or organization has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but some media reports blamed Afrin Freedom Forces, an armed group under the control of the Democratic Union Party (PYD).
Meanwhile, Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) refuted other reports and rejected responsibility, saying they had no forces in those areas.
