COVID-19 Takes over 20 Other Lives in Iraq

ERBIL - The death toll from the coronavirus in Iraq spiked to 16,690 after the novel virus claimed the lives of 22 other people across the country on Saturday.

A statement by the country's Ministry of Health explained that 3,831 new infections of COVID-19 were confirmed within the previous 24 hours, during which 4,095 patients were discharged from hospital as well.

The total number of coronavirus cases in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region has now reached 1,250,691, out if which 1,168,198 people have recovered since the first time the virus appeared in the country.

The epidemic situation in the Kurdistan Region has slightly improved in comparison to other parts of Iraq.

However, despite the fact that the Iraqi government has so far received more than three batches of COVID-19 vaccines of different types, the COVID-19 situation is yet to be brought under control in the country.
