PM Barzani, Flanders Counterpart Discuss Bilateral Ties

ERBIL - Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani was received by the Flemish Minister-President Jan Jambon on Wednesday to discuss the ever strengthening ties between the Kurdistan Region and Flanders.

Barzani's office said in a press release that the Kurdish prime minister addressed his cabinet's reform program and "paid particular note to the advancements made in the process of economic diversification and creation of new investment opportunities."

"Prime Minister Barzani acknowledged how the Kurdistan Region can benefit from the experience of European countries like Belgium when it comes to elevating its own infrastructure."

The pair further shed light on the relationship between Erbil and Baghdad, as well as continued assistance for the Kurdistan Region's Peshmerga forces in the fight against the Islamic State (IS) in the region.

Jambon, in return, noted that he was pleased to meet with the KRG delegation, and "expressed his pride in Flanders’ relationship with the KRG. The Flemish leader made clear his government’s readiness for cooperation in any form with the Kurdistan Region," the press release concluded.
