ERBIL — Islamic State (IS) militants on Saturday night attacked a checkpoint of the Iraqi Army in Kirkuk province, injuring at least two soldiers.
The attack was carried out in the vicinity of Dibis subdistrict, north of Kirkuk, said Dibis Mayor Spokesperson Walid Hamdani.
The jihadists escaped after the army forces carried out a counterattack, Hamdani told BasNews.
There were no reports of any IS casualties.
The same night, the IS snipers targeted the Hashd al-Shaabi militias in Khanaqin, Diyala province. Local sources said one fighter of the Shia militias was killed.
