ERBIL - Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi has ordered an immediate investigation into the death and injuring of protesters in the capital Baghdad, a statement confirmed.
On Tuesday, clashes were reported between the demonstrators and security forces near the Tahrir Square, where one protester was killed while 23 protesters and 22 security personnel were also wounded, according to medical sources.
A statement by the Security Media Cell said that PM Kadhimi, who is also the commander -in-chief of the armed forces, had instructed an immediate investigation headed by the Joint Operations Command and officials from the ministries of interior and defense to investigate the circumstances of Tuesday's protests.
The investigation would aim at identifying the perpetrators behind the incidents and question them, the statement noted.
Hundreds of Iraqi people took back to the streets on Tuesday to put pressure on the Iraqi authorities to find the perpetrators behind the killings of demonstrators and activists.
