ERBIL — A rocket attack on Monday targeted Ain al-Asad Air Base in Iraq’s western province of Anbar, where the US troops are stationed, officials confirmed.
US-led Global Coalition’s Spokesperson Wayne Marotto said on his official Twitter account that the air base was attacked by one rocket round at 1335 local time (+3 GMT).
“No injuries reported. Damage is being assessed,” Marotto said, noting that an investigation has already been launched.
“Each attack against the GoI [Government of Iraq], KRG [Kurdistan Regional Government] and Coalition undermines the authority of Iraqi institutions, the rule of law and Iraqi national sovereignty,” the Coalition spokesperson added.
Iraqi security sources said two other rockets had landed outside the perimeter of the air base.
