ERBIL - New clashes erupted between Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) and the opposition groups in Western Azerbaijan on Tuesday, leaving six people killed, a monitor revealed.
At least three IRGC members, as well as three opposition fighters, were killed during clashes between the two sides in Aghilbub area of Salmas city, West Azerbaijan Province, Hengaw Organization for Human Rights said.
The fourth member of an opposition group has gone missing.
Hengaw noted that two of the Iranian forces were identified as Tawhid Muradi and Mehdi Khalili from Salmas.
According to the human rights group, Iranian forces heavily bombarded the region soon after the clashes.
None of the opposition groups has yet claimed responsibility for Tuesday's attack on the Iranian forces.
