ERBIL - Iraqi Health Minister Hassan al-Tamimi on Tuesday resigned from his post over the deadly fire which claimed 82 lives at a hospital in Baghdad a few days ago.
Tamimi was suspended after a massive fire broke out at the Ibn al-Khatib hospital on April 25 which left 82 individuals killed and 110 others wounded, following a widespread hashtag demanding the resignation of the health minister.
Tamimi announced in a letter published by the ministry that he would resign from his post "as a moral obligation and in order to preserve my career path, my family, and professional history."
The deadly fire was said to have been sparked by the explosion of badly stored oxygen cylinders.
However, the resignation came after the government lifted the suspension on Tuesday.
