ERBIL — Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani on Tuesday visited Sulaymaniyah where he met with the leaders of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) and the Change Movement (Gorran).
The visit comes ahead of the Iraqi parliamentary elections, for which the Kurdish president is working to promote unity among the Kurdish factions for a better position in Iraq’s future politics.
Iraq is set to hold snap elections on 10th October this year.
BasNews has learned that the relations between Kurdistani political parties and the Kurdistan draft of Constitution were also on president’s agenda during his discussions with the parties.
“We are working seriously to address the issues inside the [Kurdistan] Region. We are also exchanging ideas about the Constitution,” Barzani told reporters.
“[We] can make greater achievements in Baghdad through unity of the Kurdish parties. The Kurdistan Region will suffer the most if we are divided.”
Barzani is expected to meet with the leader of Kurdistan Socialist Party later today.
