ERBIL - Pro-Iran Hashd al-Shaabi came under an attack of the Islamic State (IS) militants in the disputed Kurdish province of Kirkuk on Monday night, with casualties reported.
Daquq Mayor Lwis Fayaq confirmed the report to BasNews and pointed out that the insurgents carried out an attack on the Hashd al-Shaabi militiamen in Bashir village, Taza Khurmatu, Kirkuk province.
He noted that clashes were still ongoing between the Islamic State jihadists and Hashd al-Shaabi militiamen.
According to initial reports, at least one Hashd al-Shaabi militiaman was killed and two others were wounded in the clashes who were taken to Azadi hospital in Kirkuk.
The Islamic State has conducted a number of terrorist attacks on the security forces and civilians over the past few days. The militants also targeted Kurdistan Region's Peshmerga positions in southern Erbil on Saturday early morning, killing three Kurdish fighters and wounding two others.
