ERBIL - UK Ambassador to Iraq Stephen Hickey has condemned recent attacks on Erbil, the capital of Kurdistan Region, reiterating the Global Coalition's support for the Kurdistan Region.
The UK ambassador made the remarks during his meeting with Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Thursday in Erbil where they discussed the latest political and security affairs across Iraq.
"Pleased to receive today Stephen Hickey, the British Ambassador to Iraq," PM Barzani said in a statement on his Facebook feed.
"Ambassador Hickey strongly condemned the recent attacks on Erbil and reaffirmed the coalition’s support for the Kurdistan Region."
Barzani added that the pair exchanged views on the Kurdistan Regional Government's (KRG) reform efforts and progress, especially of the Peshmerga Ministry.
The two leaders further stressed on the importance of implementating the Federal Budget Law, with Barzani thanking the UK envoy for his country's support for the KRG. He also called on Baghdad to abide by its obligations towards Erbil.
"The upcoming Iraqi elections and the normalization of disputed territories were other topics of discussion," the statement concluded.
