ERBIL — Iranian forces on Thursday came under attack outside Mariwan, a Kurdish city in Kurdistan province of Iran, where two soldiers were killed.
Iranian state-run news agencies said a fierce clash had erupted at around 01:00 am, and that an “unidentified group” had targeted the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC).
An IRGC source has confirmed the death of two members.
Hengaw Organization for Human Rights said the clash had taken place in Chinara village of Mariwan. The monitoring group identified the killed IRGC members as “Haji Osman Jahani and Naser Amini”.
No Kurdish opposition group has claimed responsibility for the attack, Hengaw added, saying that reinforcements, backed by helicopters, have been sent by the IRGC to the area.
