ERBIL - The total number of people so far diagnosed with the coronavirus across Iraq has now surpassed one million, the Health Ministry reported on Wednesday.
This came after 8,696 new infections of COVID-19 were detected in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region within the previous 24 hours, the ministry explained in a statement.
There were also 6,382 new recoveries during the same day.
The coronavirus tally now stands at 1,001,854, out of which 877,309 people have recovered.
The death toll also rose to 15,098 after 38 other people lost their lives due to the pandemic on Wednesday.
The epidemic situation in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region has dramatically deteriorated, with officials keeping urging the citizens to adhere to the health guidelines to help the governments better deal with the pandemic situation.
