ERBIL — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Monday received Karim Assad Ahmed Khan, Special Adviser and Head of the UN Investigative Team for ISIS Crimes (UNITAD) and his accompanying delegation in Erbil where they discussed the UN-led efforts to hold IS criminals accountable.
“We discussed the steps taken in prosecuting ISIS [Islamic State] criminals, the cooperation of the judiciary and related institutions of the KRG, and the efforts to prepare a bill on ISIS crimes for the criminal court,” PM Barzani wrote in a statement.
The UNITAD delegation thanked the KRG for its cooperation and support during the ongoing investigations into the IS crimes. The called the joint efforts “a successful experience”.
The Kurdish premier also thanked outgoing Special Advisor Karim Khan for his work in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region for bringing justice to the victims of IS. He wished Khan success in his new mission as a Chief Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court.
