ERBIL — A fierce armed conflict on Monday erupted between the Islamist militia forces backed by Turkey in the Kurdish town of Sare Kanie (Ras al-Ain) in north of Syria.
Heavy weapons, including heavy machineguns, RPGs and mortars, were used bey the different factions of Sultan Murad militia group, Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported.
There are reports of casualties but no accurate figures were available immediately.
The clash was sparked a day earlier, which evolved to the engagement of Ahrar Al-Sharqiyyah and Al-Hamza Division, the monitoring group said, noting that the conflicting factions have brought in reinforcement which makes the situation further complicated.
“Meanwhile, Turkish forces stationed in bases and posts inside Ras Al-Ain city and near the border crossing were seen on high alert,” SOHR added.
