ERBIL — Kurdistan Region Presidency has strongly condemned the “terrorist attacks” which targeted Erbil International Airport and the Turkish military base in Bashiqa, Nineveh province.
The presidency said in a statement that there are no justifications for these attacks, and that the actions will only lead to further tensions and destabilization of Iraq, and threaten its highest national interests.
“It is important to take the continuation of these attacks seriously. The Kurdistan Region and Iraq’s Federal Government must strengthen coordination and cooperation, with the support of the International Coalition, in order to confront the groups that are behind such attacks,” reads the statement.
“These groups must be prevented from jeopardizing the peace and stability of the country,” it added.
According to the latest update, no one was hurt in the attack in Erbil which was carried out by a drone mounted with explosives and reportedly targeted the US-led Global Coalition forces stationed at the airport.
However, Turkish Defense Ministry has confirmed that one of its soldiers was killed in the rocket attack.
BasNews has learned that one civilian, a 12-year-old girl, was severely injured after a rocket fell short inside a village near Bashiqa.
