ERBIL — Two improvised explosive devices (IED) were found near Kirkuk Police Headquarters on Wednesday night, officials confirmed.
Security forces were called in to safely remove the explosives before they could cause any damages, a police source told BasNews.
According to the information obtained by BasNews, at least one individual has been arrested in relation with the planned attack. However, no information about his identity or affiliations was immediately available.
A leaked document recently showed that the Iraqi forces were put on high alert in Kirkuk after intelligence indicated a possible major attack by the Islamic State (IS) in the city.
The document said the IS militants were planning to attack a Kirkuk prison where a large number of IS militants are being held, as well as a court in the disputed Kurdish city.
