ERBIL - Iraq's Health Ministry said on Wednesday that it has recorded the highest daily number of COVID-19 infections since the outbreak of the novel virus in the region.
A total of 8,331 people have been found positive for the coronavirus within the previous 24 hours while 37 others lost their lives, the health ministry said in a statement.
Within the same period, 5,020 patients have been discharged from the hospital.
The new report brings the coronavirus tally across Iraq to 859,622, with the death toll spiking to 14,572.
According to the Iraqi Health Ministry, 118,670 people have so far been vaccinated in the country.
The epidemic situation in Iraq has dramatically deteriorated, including in the Kurdistan Region, where a four-day nighttime curfew was announced on Wednesday.
