KRG Announces Nighttime Curfew Amid COVID-19 Surge

ERBIL - Kurdistan Region's Interior Ministry has announced a curfew across the Kurdistan Region amid a rapid increase in the coronavirus infections.

The ministry explained in a statement that the curfew will be in place from 8:00 pm to 6:00 am, during which movements of pedestrians and vehicles will be prohibited.

It will go into effect from Thursday, lasting until April 12, according to the statement.

It further added that the partial curfew will not affect the UN organizations, diplomats, journalists, oil companies, health workers, and security forces, noting that part of the pharmacies will remain open.

The fresh curfew comes while the pandemic situation in the Kurdistan Region has dramatically worsened. The Health Ministry on Wednesday registered a total of 1,217 new infections with 13 deaths, raising the tally to 128,264 and the death toll to 3,756.
