ERBIL — Iran said on Tuesday that it has indicted 10 people over the tragic shooting-down of the Ukrainian passenger plane last year in January.
“Indictments have been issued for 10 officials involved in the crash of the Ukrainian plane... and necessary decisions will be taken in the court,” Gholam Abbas Torki, the military prosecutor for Tehran province, said.
Iran previously blamed the incident on a misaligned radar and an error by an air defense operator.
However, Ukraine, Canada, and other countries believe the Iranian investigations are insufficient.
The downing of the Ukrainian plane happened on 8th January 2020, only days after the US killed Iran’s top general Qasem Soleimani in Baghdad, which led to a serious escalation in the region.
The entire people aboard, counting 167 passengers and nine crew members, died instantly a few minutes after the airliner took off from an airport in Tehran.
