Magnitude 4.1 Earthquake Shakes Kurdish Town near Iran Border

ERBIL — An earthquake measured at 4.1 on Richter scale hit the Kurdish town of Khanaqin in the early hours on Monday.

Kurdistan Region's General Directorate of Meteorology and Seismology said in a statement that the epicenter of the quake was 9 kilometers outside Khanaqin, in a depth of 11 kilometers, near the Iranian border.

There was no report of casualties or serious material damages, the statement said.

Khanaqin is a Kurdish town in Diyala province of Iraq, which is currently under the control of the Iraqi government.
