Protesters Clash with Security Forces in Iraq's Najaf Again

ERBIL - For the second day in a row, clashes were reported between angry protesters and security forces in Iraq's Najaf.

The anti-government protesters gathered outside the building of the city's governor, demanding the resignation of the local government, as it had failed to provide the citizens with the basic public services.

Iraqi reports said that clashes erupted after the security forces attempted to disperse the demonstrators in the area.

A great number of people have been injured within the past two days during the ongoing demonstrations in Najaf, locals told Iraqi media reports.

Protests against the government first began in October, 2019, since when nearly 30,000 people, including protesters and security personnel, have been wounded while hundreds of others were killed.

Moreover, scores of civil and protest activists in Iraq have either been killed or abducted by unidentified groups since the beginning of the demonstrations in the country.
