ERBIL - Islamic State (IS) snipers on Friday killed at least one Iraqi soldier in the province of Diyala, local police reported.
Confirming to BasNews, Nihad Mohammed, a spokesperson for Diyala Police, said that the incident took place near the village of Khailan, Sharaban town.
The security forces cordoned off the area but the IS snipers escaped the scene before the arrival of the security forces, he noted.
This comes as there is a serious Islamic State resurgence in various areas of Iraq, especially in the territories disputed between Erbil and Baghdad.
A security source told Shafaq News earlier the day that unidentified gunmen, believed to be members of Islamic State, assassinated a family of seven members in Salahaddin province.
The armed men were seen wearing military uniforms, the source said, noting that they also left another civilian injured in the house.
