ERBIL — An armed group affiliated with the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) on Thursday clashed with Iraqi Army personnel in Sinune district near Sinjar.
Sources from the area said the violent conflict erupted as today was the deadline for the Iraqi Army to enroll 1,500 PKK fighters and included them on its payroll as part of the efforts to stabilize the area.
Kurdistan 24 said one Iraqi soldier was injured and a military vehicle of the Iraqi army was seized by the PKK fighters.
Armed men affiliated with the PKK staged a demonstration in central Sinjar following the incident, demanding Iraq to fulfill its promise.
