Sulaimaniya: Journalist Receives Death Threats after Criticism of PUK Co-leader

ERBIL - A journalist in Kurdistan Region's Sulaimaniya province has received life threats following criticism of Lahur Sheikh Jangi, the co-leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK).

Harem Sheikh Jamal revealed that a security official, affiliated with the PUK forces, had sent him life threats after the journalist criticized Sheikh Jangi during an interview with a TV channel in Sulaimaniya published on Wednesday.

The journalist confirmed the report to BasNews and pointed out that, despite the life threatenings, he went to work as any other normal work days in Sulaimaniya's mayoral administration building on Thursday.

Waiting in front of the mayoral administration facility, the security official began threatening his life once he arrived at the building, he said.

Jamal noted that he had informed the relevant authorities in the mayor's office of the threatenings, but that the same thing occurred again when leaving home later in the afternoon, revealing that "he said I will kill you eventually."
