ERBIL - Iraq's Ministry of Health on Thursday reported that more than 5,000 new infections of COVID-19 were detected within the previous day.
The coronavirus tally across Iraq spiked to 713,994 after 5,043 new cases were confirmed on Thursday, the ministry said in a statement.
The death toll also rose to 13,507 after 24 other people died from COVID-19, the statement said, adding that 3,396 patients were discharged from the hospital.
Out of the total number of confirmed cases, at least 650,015 people have so far recovered since February, 2020.
The coronavirus situation in Iraq is worsening while China's COVID-19 vaccines have already arrived in the country as part of the country's donation.
