ERBIL - Kurdistan Region's Interior Ministry on Tuesday tightened the protective measures to curb the coronavirus spread in the region.
Conferences, religious, and public gatherings will be banned while cinema halls will be closed down in all provinces, the ministry said in a statement, noting that traveling will not be allowed between the Kurdistan Region and other parts of Iraq on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays until March 7.
However, diplomatic delegations, the US-led Coalition forces or UN staff will not be affected by the fresh measures which will go into effect on Wednesday, March 3.
The ministry has also emphasized on wearing masks by all citizens to help the government to better deal with the pandemic situation.
Wedding parties are allowed to take place but with a limited number of people to attend the events.
Nightclubs, cafes, and other similar sites will be closed from 12:00 am to 6:00 am.
This comes in response to an increase in the number of coronavirus infections in the Kurdistan Region.
