ERBIL — US President Joe Biden and Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi held a phone conversation on Wednesday to discuss a range of issues, including the recent rocket attacks against the US forces and diplomatic mission in Iraq.
“They discussed the recent rocket attacks against Iraqi and Coalition personnel and agreed that those responsible for such attacks must be held fully to account,” The White House said in the readout of the phone call.
“Together, they discussed the importance of advancing the Strategic Dialogue between our countries and expanding bilateral cooperation on other key issues.”
The phone call came after three rocket attacks targeted the US forces and the US Embassy three times in the past week alone. The latest was when three rockets were fired towards the US Embassy in Baghdad’s Green Zone.
Prior to that, another attack targeted Balad Air Base which houses the US forces in Salahaddin Province, north of Baghdad.
The first attack was when 14 rockets were fired towards Erbil International Airport where the US-led Global Coalition are stationed. It killed one US civilian contractor and injured four others, including a US service member.
