UK Expresses Concerns over Monday's Rocket Attack on Baghdad's Green Zone

ERBIL - James Cleverly, UK's Minister for Middle East and North Africa at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO), has expressed concerns over Monday's rocket attack on Baghdad’s Green Zone.

Earlier on Monday evening, at least three rockets were fired at the US embassy in Baghdad, two of which fell inside the fortified Green Zone while the third one hit a civilian-populated neighborhood outside the Green Zone, resulting in damages to four vehicles belonging to civilians.

"There is a concerning pattern of attacks in Iraq, with further reports of an attack in the International Zone yesterday," Cleverly wrote on Twitter.

"Those seeking to destabilise Iraq will not win. The UK is resolute in its support to the Government of Iraq and the Iraqi people."

Similar attacks are regularly reported on the US embassy in Baghdad and military bases housing the US forces in Iraq, for which Washington blames the pro-Iran militia groups in the country.
