PM Barzani Urges Iraqi Government to Ensure Safety of Diplomatic Missions

ERBIL — Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani has condemned Monday’s rocket attack on the US Embassy in Baghdad, urging the federal government to protect the diplomatic missions in the country.

“I condemn last night’s attack on the US Embassy in Baghdad. Diplomatic missions take enormous risk to be in Iraq. They are here to help confront terrorism and rebuild Iraq,” PM Barzani wrote on Twitter.

On Monday night, three rockets were fired towards the US Embassy in Baghdad. Two of them landed inside the Green Zone and one hit a civilian-populated neighborhood outside the fortified district.

Authorities said four civilian-owned vehicles were seriously damaged but that there were no casualties.

“I urge the federal government to take practical measures to ensure their safety,” Kurdistan Region premier said. “The attacks must stop.”
